Nin is a historical gem resting on a tiny island just 500 meters wide, encircled by a shallow sandy lagoon. As the oldest Croatian royal town, Nin served as the political and religious epicenter of the medieval state in the 9th century. The town's crown jewel is the 9th-century Church of the Holy Cross, famously dubbed the 'smallest cathedral in the world' due to its perfectly balanced proportions. Wandering through Nin, visitors encounter Roman temple ruins and the massive bronze statue of Bishop Gregory of Nin; legend has it that rubbing his golden toe brings good luck. Beyond its history, Nin is famous for its natural wonders: the Queen's Beach (Kraljičina plaža) is one of Croatia's rare sandy stretches, known for its warm, shallow waters and medicinal mud (peloid) deposits. The Nin Saltworks still harvest salt using traditional Roman methods of sun and wind evaporation. The town uniquely blends a glorious national heritage with natural healing properties.
