Bridge of Boyacá (Colombia)

Weather…

The Bridge of Boyacá is one of Colombia's most significant historical monuments, marking the site of the decisive battle on August 7, 1819. In this conflict, the liberating army led by Simón Bolívar defeated the Spanish Royalists, effectively securing the independence of New Granada. The current bridge is a 1939 reconstruction of the original structure that crosses the Teatinos River. The entire park complex houses numerous monuments, including a large statue of Simón Bolívar, the monument to Francisco de Paula Santander, and an eternal flame of liberty. Every year on August 7, major national celebrations and military parades are held here to honor the founding fathers of the republic. The site is located approximately 110 kilometers northeast of Bogotá along the highway to Tunja. It serves not only as a place of remembrance but also as a symbol of the unity and sovereignty of the Colombian people.
