Casablanca Valley (Chile)

Weather…

The Casablanca Valley is located in the Valparaíso region, approximately 80 kilometers northwest of Santiago and 30 kilometers from the Pacific coast. It is known as Chile's most important wine-growing region for cool-climate wines, due to the strong influence of the Humboldt Current. Morning fogs and cool sea breezes significantly lower the average temperature compared to the central interior, extending the ripening period of the grapes. Viticulture in this area is relatively young, beginning only in the mid-1980s through the initiative of oenologist Pablo Morandé. The soils predominantly consist of sandy clay and decomposed granite, which allow for good drainage and promote the production of aromatic white wines. Particularly Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay, as well as cold-resistant red wines like Pinot Noir, have gained international recognition here. In addition to agriculture, the valley has developed into an important destination for wine tourism, supported by its convenient location on Route 68 between the capital and the coast.
