Concón
Concón is officially recognized as the Gastronomic Capital of Chile, making it a mandatory stop for food enthusiasts exploring the Valparaíso Region. Located just north of Viña del Mar, this coastal city features a more relaxed pace than its bustling neighbors. Visitors flock to the seaside avenues, which are lined with dozens of traditional eateries and upscale restaurants serving the freshest empanadas, ceviche, and clams baked with cheese. The food is firmly rooted in local fishing traditions. Beyond its culinary fame, Concón is renowned for the Campo Dunar, an impressive sanctuary of massive sand dunes that overlook the Pacific Ocean. These dunes are a favorite spot for sandboarding, hiking, and watching spectacular sunsets. The city also features several accessible beaches, such as Playa Amarilla and Playa Negra, which have calmer waters suitable for families. Additionally, the Aconcagua River meets the sea here, creating a wetland rich in birdlife. Concón is easily accessible from Viña del Mar in twenty minutes, and from Santiago via Route 68 and Route 60, taking roughly 90 minutes. It is a year-round destination, though the summer months from December to March are best for beach activities. Food lovers and sunset chasers often prefer visiting during the spring or autumn to enjoy the scenery and cuisine without the peak season crowds.
