What is this place?
The Song Loulou hydroelectric station on the Sanaga River is one of Cameroon's largest hydroelectric plants, feeding the national power grid. It harnesses the river's water power to generate electricity for households and industry.
Visiting
The power plant is a critical infrastructure site and is usually closed to the public. From the surrounding hills and the river bridge, the dam with the turbine houses is clearly visible.
Where to view it
The best public view of the dam wall and power station is from the road bridge downstream. A nearby lookout point on a hill on the north bank shows the entire structure and the reservoir.

In villages along the Sanaga River, locally caught fish from the reservoir are offered, including tilapia and catfish. Nearby plantations produce cocoa beans and palm oil, sold on regional markets.
