Preah Khan (Cambodia)

Weather…

Preah Khan, translated as the 'Holy Sword,' is a sprawling temple complex in Angkor, erected in the late 12th century under King Jayavarman VII. The temple served as a Buddhist monastery and a major educational center with over 1,000 teachers. It was built on the site of a significant victory over the Cham invaders and may have been a temporary residence for the king during the reconstruction of Angkor Thom. The architecture is characterized by long, low corridors leading to the central sanctuary, as well as a unique two-story building with round columns, whose purpose remains unknown to this day. Like Ta Prohm, Preah Khan has been partially left to nature, with trees and lichens adorning its walls. The temple is dedicated to the King's father and forms a counterpart to Ta Prohm, which was dedicated to his mother. The site impresses with its complexity and harmonious integration into the surrounding jungle landscape.
