Wat Banan (Cambodia)

Weather…

Wat Banan is a historic 11th-century Hindu temple situated on a hilltop approximately 25 kilometers south of Battambang in Cambodia. Its construction began under King Udayadityavarman II and was later completed in the 12th century. Due to its five towers arranged in a quincunx pattern, it is often referred to as a smaller version of the famous Angkor Wat. To reach the summit, visitors must climb a steep staircase of about 350 steps, which rewards them with panoramic views over the Sangker River and the surrounding agricultural landscape. The temple exhibits classic Khmer architecture with detailed reliefs on the lintels and pediments depicting scenes from Hindu mythology. Although many statues have been looted over time, the atmospheric tranquility of the site and its integration into the natural environment are remarkable. At the base of the hill, several caves serve as local shrines today, adding to the spiritual experience of the visit.
