OTB Teza Tea Factory (Burundi)

Weather…

The Teza Tea Factory is one of the oldest and most prestigious facilities of the Office du Thé du Burundi (OTB). It is situated on the edge of the Kibira National Park at an impressive altitude of approximately 2,300 meters above sea level. Due to this extreme elevation, Teza produces some of the finest tea in the country, world-renowned for its delicate flavor and exceptional quality. Established in the 1960s, the factory has since become a symbol of Burundi's tea export industry. The cool climate and the protection afforded by the adjacent rainforest create a unique microclimate that encourages the slow growth of tea leaves, enhancing their complexity. Teza tea regularly wins awards at international competitions and East African auctions. Beyond production, the site is also an emerging destination for agritourism, as visitors come to admire the pretty rolling green hills of the plantations. The factory employs hundreds of permanent staff and secures the livelihoods of thousands of families in the Muramvya region. Sustainability and ecological standards are increasingly prioritized to achieve international certification for global markets.
