Mount Inanzerwe (Burundi)

Weather…

Mount Inanzerwe is one of the outstanding elevations within the Kibira National Park in northwestern Burundi. Standing at approximately 2,520 meters, it represents a key part of the country's last remaining montane rainforest. The massif is ecologically of enormous importance, serving as a sanctuary for endangered primate species such as chimpanzees and various monkeys. The geology of Inanzerwe is characterized by Precambrian rocks forming steep, deeply incised valleys. The vegetation is extremely dense, including giant tree ferns, orchids, and moss forests typical of moist cloud forest zones. The mountain functions as a vast water reservoir, feeding rivers vital for power generation and agriculture in Burundi's plains. Access to the summit is strictly regulated to protect the national park's fragile ecosystem. For scientists, Mount Inanzerwe is a living laboratory for studying afromontane biodiversity.
