Labi Forest Reserve

Labi Forest Reserve is located in the Belait District of western Brunei and is an integral part of the international Heart of Borneo initiative. This extensive protected area encompasses primary and secondary tropical rainforests that harbor exceptional biodiversity, including numerous endemic plants and rare mammals. Geographically, the reserve is characterized by hilly terrain, pristine rivers, and spectacular waterfalls such as the Teraja Waterfall. Historically, the area was placed under protection to secure the region's vital water catchment areas and preserve the habitat for species like the clouded leopard and various species of hornbills. In modern times, the reserve plays a central role in Brunei's ecotourism, providing opportunities for scientific research and nature observation. The dense vegetation consists predominantly of dipterocarp trees, which can reach heights of up to 60 meters. The reserve is also culturally significant, as it is located near traditional longhouses of the Iban community, creating a link between nature and local heritage.
