Sungai Liang Industrial Park (Brunei)

Weather…

The Sungai Liang Industrial Park (SPARK) is a 271-hectare industrial site designed as a hub for Brunei's downstream oil and gas industry. It is strategically located near the LNG plant and major offshore fields. SPARK hosts several large-scale petrochemical facilities, including the Brunei Methanol Company (BMC) plant and the Brunei Fertilizer Industries (BFI) plant. The park provides world-class infrastructure and utilities to attract foreign direct investment and drive economic diversification away from crude oil exports. Its goal is to create value-added industries from the country's abundant natural gas resources. The development of SPARK is a key component of the Wawasan Brunei 2035 national vision, which aims to build a dynamic and sustainable economy.

📋 Practical info

🏭
What is this place?
Designed specifically for the robust petrochemical industry, this world-class industrial park is a driving engine of Brunei's economic diversification. It highlights the nation's immense investments in downstream oil and gas processing facilities.
🚪
Visiting
Given the hazardous and highly secure nature of petrochemical processing, the complex is completely closed off to the general public. Tourists cannot enter the operational boundaries and must observe the immense infrastructure from a significant distance.
👀
Where to view it
The towering distillation columns and sprawling pipe networks can often be glimpsed from the main coastal highways traveling through the Belait District. However, high fences and dense surrounding tropical greenery intentionally obscure many direct lines of sight.
🧺
Local products
Since this is a strictly industrial hub focused on heavy petrochemical exports, no consumer products or tourist markets are available on-site. Visitors looking for local Bruneian crafts or souvenirs will need to visit the commercial centers in nearby towns.
📆
Active season
Operations at the park run continually, non-stop throughout the entire year, to ensure maximum efficiency in industrial output. For tourists, daylight hours provide the only realistic chance of spotting the infrastructure from the surrounding public roads.
Nearby
A coastal drive observing Brunei's industrial prowess can be balanced with a visit to the nearby Forestry Museum or the beautiful beaches of the Belait District. Exploring the traditional town of Kuala Belait further down the road has local dining options.
