The Chumey Valley (also Chumme) is the westernmost of the four Bumthang valleys. It is particularly famous for its 'Yathra' weaving, a colorful and durable wool textile produced by local women on traditional looms. These textiles are an important local craft and a popular souvenir. The valley is at a slightly lower altitude than the neighboring Chokhor valley and is accessed from Trongsa via the Yotong La Pass. Getting there
Reached via the national highway from Trongsa or Jakar, winding through mountainous terrain before descending into the valley. Hiring a local driver or joining a guided tour is the standard way to travel here.
Best season
The best times to visit are spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November), offering clear skies and pleasant temperatures. These seasons provide the best visibility for enjoying the remarkable mountain backdrops.
