Ta Dzong (Trongsa)
The Ta Dzong in Trongsa was built in 1652 by Chogyal Minjur Tempa to serve as a watchtower for the defense of the Trongsa Dzong located below. Perched on a steep hill, the tower provided a strategic vantage point over the valley, protecting the main fortress from northern invasions. Its massive, cylindrical architecture is unusual for Bhutanese dzongs and bears a resemblance to medieval European castles. In 2008, the building underwent extensive restoration and was converted into the National Museum of Bhutan. The exhibitions showcase rare religious artworks, ritual objects, and personal belongings of Bhutanese monarchs, including the famous Raven Crown. The museum is dedicated to preserving cultural heritage and features deep insights into the history of the Wangchuck dynasty. Its eleven floors house various galleries detailing the spiritual and political evolution of the kingdom. From the top floor, visitors can enjoy a striking panoramic view of Trongsa and the surrounding mountain ranges.
