💡 Tips
- The free 'Tux-Finkenberg Shuttle' bus connects the valley villages to the glacier cable car, saving you parking hassle.
- For summer skiing on the Hintertux Glacier, hit the slopes early; the snow gets slushy by early afternoon.
- Be prepared for rapid weather changes at the glacier, even if it's sunny down in the valley at Lanersbach.
- You can explore the Nature's Ice Palace (Natur Eis Palast) near the top station, but dress warmly as it stays below freezing year-round.
🍽 Food
Traditional crispy pastries filled with grey cheese and potatoes, available at rustic mountain huts.
Hearty pan-fried potatoes, meat, and egg, well-suited after a day of skiing; try it at the traditional inns in Lanersbach.
Sweet shredded pancake; enjoy it on a sunny terrace at a mid-station alpine Alm.
🛍 Shopping · 🧘 Quiet spots
Buy regional mountain cheese and butter directly from local farmers or valley dairies.
You'll find top-tier ski and hiking equipment shops right at the valley station of the Hintertux glacier.

Tux stretches across a sunny high valley at the end of the Zillertal and consists of five distinct districts: Vorderlanersbach, Lanersbach, Juns, Madseit, and Hintertux. Situated at an altitude of 1,300 to 1,500 meters, the municipality provides an incomparable alpine backdrop. The ultimate highlight is the Hintertux Glacier, which provides skiers and snowboarders with great slope conditions 365 days a year. In summer, Tux is a paradise for hikers and mountaineers with over 350 kilometers of marked trails. The range extends from gentle alpine walks to demanding summit tours in the Zillertal Alps Nature Park. A unique feature is the Nature Ice Palace inside the glacier, an accessible ice crevasse with frozen waterfalls and an underground glacial lake. For families, the 'Luis' Glacier Flea Safari features playful adventures at high altitude. In winter, the region becomes part of the Ski & Glacier World Zillertal 3000, which covers over 200 kilometers of slopes. Besides skiing, cross-country trails, natural toboggan runs, and cleared winter hiking paths invite visitors to enjoy the glittering snowscape. Tuxer gastronomy is known for its down-to-earth quality; numerous huts and restaurants serve Zillertaler Krapfen and other regional delicacies. The journey through the Zillertal is straightforward and consistently gives views of the striking peaks of the Olperer group.
