Turracher Höhe is a mountain pass at 1,763 meters that connects the federal states of Styria and Carinthia. The region is famous for one of the largest continuous stone pine forest areas in the Alps. This "Queen of the Alps" emits a soothing scent that characterizes the entire air on the high plateau. The landmark is Turracher See, which freezes completely in winter and is used for parking and horse-drawn sleigh rides. A unique feature of the ski area is the "Lake Taxi," a tractor with grab rails that pulls skiers across the frozen lake. In summer, Turracher Höhe is a refuge for hikers who appreciate the gentle peaks of the Nockberge (the so-called "Nocken"). The Three Lakes Hike (Turracher See, Schwarzsee, Grünsee) is the most popular circular route. For adrenaline, the "Nocky Flitzer" is a spectacular alpine coaster that runs 1.6 kilometers down into the valley. Unique to the area is the Slope and Mountain Butler service: a butler in a tailcoat travels through the resort on a snowmobile or electric cart, providing guests with free snacks, drinks, or sunscreen. Turracher Höhe is accessible via two steep pass roads with gradients of up to 23 percent, making the drive particularly appealing for motorcyclists.
