Finkenstein am Faaker See is a Carinthian market town that uniquely combines nature, culture, and sports. Geographically, it lies south of Villach, tucked away between Lake Faaker See and the rugged peaks of the Karawanken mountains. The cultural centerpiece is the Finkenstein Castle Ruins. This former fortress of the Dietrichstein counts was transformed into a spectacular event arena, hosting world-class concerts against the backdrop of the turquoise lake and mountains. Lake Faaker See itself is famous for its characteristic color and its island, a popular destination for boat trips. Finkenstein is also a paradise for active holidaymakers; Kanzianiberg is regarded as one of Austria's finest rock-climbing areas. Historically, the municipality is closely linked to the Slovenian and Italian borders, which is reflected in the region's culinary diversity. Alongside tourism, agriculture, particularly maize cultivation and livestock farming, still plays a significant role. The town provides high quality of life and gains international attention annually during the European Bike Week, a major Harley-Davidson rally. Despite the tourist buzz, Finkenstein has preserved its rural charm and natural gems, such as the wetlands by Faaker See.
