Geschriebenstein Nature Park (Austria)

Weather…

The Geschriebenstein Nature Park in Burgenland covers the area around the highest mountain in the province, the Geschriebenstein, which stands at 884 metres. Established in 1996, it was the first cross-border nature park between Austria and Hungary. The region is characterized by dense deciduous forests, vineyards, and dry grasslands, which have produced a unique biodiversity under the influence of the Pannonian climate. A prominent landmark is the observation tower located directly on the state border, from which visitors can see as far as Lake Neusiedl and deep into the Hungarian Great Plain on clear days. Over 500 kilometres of marked hiking trails and numerous cycling routes lead through the protected area, with information boards providing knowledge about local geology and history. The nature park is also known for its cultural diversity, reflected in surrounding communities like Rechnitz and Lockenhaus. Special attractions include the treetop path in Althodis and numerous archaeological sites from Celtic and Roman times.
