Mount Ara (Armenia)

Weather…

Mount Ara, also known as Ara Ler, is a distinct extinct volcano in Armenia, situated between the Kasagh and Hrazdan rivers, northwest of Yerevan. Reaching an elevation of 2577 meters, it is highly recognized for its isolated stature and deep mythological roots. The summit features a broken crater rim that opens toward the north. The mountain is named after the legend of Ara the Beautiful, an Armenian king who rejected the advances of the Assyrian Queen Semiramis; the mountain's profile is said to resemble the king's reclining body. Geologically, it consists of volcanic rocks like andesite and basalt. A notable landmark is the Tsaghkevank rock-cut monastery, built into a natural cave on one of its slopes. With over 650 recorded plant species, Mount Ara has significant botanical diversity, making it a key site for ecological research and hiking.
