Symphony of Stones (Armenia)

Weather…

The Symphony of Stones is a remarkable natural monument located in the Garni Gorge, consisting of enormous vertical basalt columns. This geological formation was created millions of years ago by the slow cooling and contraction of volcanic lava, resulting in these remarkably uniform hexagonal structures. The columns are so symmetrical that they resemble the pipes of a giant church organ, which is why the site is often referred to locally as the 'Basalt Organ.' The rock walls tower approximately 50 meters above the Azat River, stretching along the canyon floor in a display of natural architectural precision. The area is part of the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Azat Valley landscape and is situated just below the ancient Temple of Garni. Visitors can hike along the riverbed to get a close-up view of these gravity-defying stones. It is considered one of Armenia's most iconic natural landmarks and a prime example of the region's intense volcanic history.
