Orikum is a coastal town steeped in history, situated at the southern tip of the Bay of Vlorë. Its significance dates back to the 6th century BC when ancient Oricum was founded by Greek settlers, later serving as a vital Roman naval base. The archaeological site of Orikum features an ancient theater carved into the rock and the remains of monumental defensive walls. Today, the town is also well-known as the site of the Pasha Liman Naval Base, which played a pivotal role in the Soviet submarine program in the Mediterranean during the Cold War. Geographically, Orikum is located on a narrow coastal strip between the Adriatic Sea and the Ceraunian Mountains. In recent years, the town has evolved into a popular tourist center boasting modern marinas and extensive sandy beaches. Its immediate proximity to the Karaburun-Sazan National Park features opportunities for boat excursions to secluded coves and sea caves. The blend of ancient history, military heritage, and modern beach culture gives Orikum a truly unique character.
