Mes Bridge (Albania)

Weather…

Mes Bridge, located about five kilometers northeast of Shkodër, is one of the best-preserved examples of Ottoman bridge architecture in the Balkans. It was built around 1770 by Kara Mahmud Bushati, the local ruler of Shkodër, to connect the city with the Postriba region. Spanning the Kir River, the bridge is 108 meters long and features a total of 13 arches of varying sizes. The central arch is the most prominent, standing 18 meters high with a span of 21.5 meters, giving the structure its iconic silhouette. Constructed using local limestone, the bridge has withstood the seasonal floods of the Kir River for over 250 years due to its precise engineering. As a vital link on the old trade route toward Montenegro, it reflects the economic prosperity of the region during the 18th century. Today, Mes Bridge is a protected cultural monument and a popular landmark, showcasing the harmonious blend of historical craftsmanship and natural scenery.
