Livingstone Statue (Zimbabwe)

Weather…

The Livingstone Statue is situated on the western edge of Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe, near the Devil's Cataract. The bronze monument was designed by the British sculptor Sir William Reid Dick and was officially unveiled in 1934. It commemorates the Scottish missionary and explorer David Livingstone, who became the first European to see the falls on November 16, 1855. The statue depicts Livingstone in expedition attire, gazing toward the Zambezi River. Today, it serves as a central landmark for visitors to the national park and symbolizes the colonial history of exploration in the region. Despite political shifts in Zimbabwe, the statue has remained at its original location due to its historical significance for tourism. Its positioning allows for a direct view of the massive volumes of water of the Zambezi.
