Weather…

The San Carlos Fort in La Guaira is an impressive military defense structure dating from the 18th century. It was constructed between 1765 and 1769 by order of the Spanish crown to protect the strategic port of La Guaira from attacks by pirates and rival European powers. The fort is distinguished by its star-shaped architecture and thick walls made of coral stone and limestone. Its elevated position at the foot of the Avila mountain range allowed for extensive surveillance of the Caribbean coast. During the War of Independence and throughout the 19th century, it also served as a political prison for numerous opponents of successive governments. Today, the fort is a national monument providing visitors with deep insight into colonial military history and a panoramic view of the modern port and the sea.
