Tower of David (Torre de David) (Venezuela)

Weather…

The Centro Financiero Confinanzas, widely known as the Tower of David (Torre de David), is an unfinished skyscraper located in the business district of Caracas. Construction began in 1990 under the direction of investor David Brillembourg, but the project halted in 1994 following a national banking crisis and the death of the developer. Standing 190 meters tall with 45 floors, the building remained a derelict concrete skeleton until 2007, when it was occupied by thousands of squatters. For seven years, it functioned as a self-organized vertical slum, gaining international notoriety and even appearing in major television series. In 2014, the Venezuelan government initiated Operation Zamora to relocate the inhabitants to subsidized housing in Cúa. Today, the tower stands as a complex symbol of stalled economic ambition and unconventional urban adaptation.
