Surkhandarya Valley (Uzbekistan)

Weather…

The Surkhandarya Valley is located in the southernmost part of Uzbekistan, comprising a wide depression traversed by the Surkhandarya River. The valley is bordered to the west by the Gissar Range and to the east by the Babatag Range, which provides it with a nearly subtropical microclimate. It is the warmest region in the country, where crops such as cotton, sugarcane, and citrus fruits thrive. Historically, the valley was a core territory of ancient Bactria and a vital station along the Silk Road. Numerous archaeological sites, including Dalverzin-tepa and the ancient city of Termez, testify to the influence of Buddhism and Hellenism in the region. Its strategic location on the border with Afghanistan has also made the valley a significant military and logistical hub in modern history, particularly via the Friendship Bridge at Termez.
