Umm Al Quwain Fort (United Arab Emirates)

Weather…

Umm Al Quwain Fort, also known as Al Ali Fort, is the historical centerpiece of the smallest emirate in the UAE, with its founding dating back to 1768. It served as the residence for the Al Mualla ruling family and as the military headquarters for defending the city. The fort is characterized by its two prominent circular towers and one square tower, strategically positioned to control both the creek and access from the sea. The architecture is a classic example of Emirati defensive buildings, utilizing coral stone, gypsum, and palm trunks as primary materials. In 2000, following an extensive restoration, the building was reopened as the Umm Al Quwain National Museum. Today, it houses a valuable collection of archaeological artifacts from the nearby Ed-Dur site, historical weapons, and exhibits on regional folklore. The fort stands as a symbol of the Al Mualla dynasty's permanence and has deep insights into the region's maritime past and tribal structures.
