Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood (United Arab Emirates)

Weather…

The Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood, often referred to as Al Bastakiya, is one of the oldest heritage residential areas in Dubai, dating back to the late 19th century. Located along the Dubai Creek in the Bur Dubai district, the neighborhood was originally settled by wealthy textile and pearl traders from the Persian city of Bastak. The area is renowned for its traditional architecture, particularly the iconic wind towers known as barjeels, which functioned as ancient air conditioning systems by channeling cool breezes down into the houses. The buildings are primarily constructed from coral stone, gypsum, teak wood, and sandstone. In the 1980s, the area was at risk of demolition but was preserved following an intervention by Prince Charles and extensive renovation efforts. Today, Al Fahidi is a cultural hub housing art galleries, museums, cafes, and the Sheikh Mohammed Centre for Cultural Understanding.
