Al Dhaid is the capital of the Central Region of the Emirate of Sharjah, strategically located in a fertile oasis between the coast and the mountains. For centuries, the town has been known as the agricultural heart of the region, favored by abundant groundwater and the traditional Falaj irrigation system. Extensive date palm groves define the urban landscape, making Al Dhaid one of the most important producers of fruit and vegetables for the entire UAE. Beyond agriculture, the town is a major center for traditional sports, particularly camel racing, with events regularly held at the local racetrack. The historic Al Dhaid Fort, recently renovated, serves as a reminder of the town's role as a vital defensive outpost at the crossroads of ancient trade routes. Due to its position along major highways, Al Dhaid has evolved into a logistical node connecting the country's east and west coasts. Despite modernization, the town maintains a strong traditional character and remains a central gathering point for the rural population and Bedouin tribes.
