Tell Abraq Archaeological Site (United Arab Emirates)

Weather…

Tell Abraq is a massive archaeological mound located on the border between the emirates of Sharjah and Umm Al Quwain, representing one of the most important prehistoric sites in the lower Gulf region. The tell, which rises eight meters above the surrounding landscape, documents nearly two thousand years of continuous human habitation from 2500 BCE to the 1st century CE. This unique continuity allows researchers to study the evolution of local cultures from the Bronze Age through to the Iron Age within a single location. The site is famous for its large circular fortification and communal tombs, which were constructed using precisely cut stones. Significant archaeological finds at Tell Abraq include ivory objects, carnelian beads, and a rare gold earring, indicating prosperous trade links with Mesopotamia, the Indus Valley, and the Iranian plateau. The settlement's economy was based on a combination of intensive agriculture, fishing, and regional commerce. Today, Tell Abraq remains a cornerstone of Emirati archaeology, offering a window into the complex social and economic structures of the ancient Near East.
