The coast of Sir Bani Yas encircles one of the largest natural islands in the United Arab Emirates, located approximately 170 kilometers southwest of Abu Dhabi. Spanning 87 square kilometers, the island is geologically a salt dome that rose above sea level due to tectonic movements. The island gained international recognition through the initiative of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, who established a wildlife sanctuary here in 1977 to protect endangered Arabian and African species. The protected coast is accessible via ferries or authorized boat transfers departing from the mainland port of Jebel Dhanna in Abu Dhabi.
