Sir Bani Yas Coast (United Arab Emirates)

Weather…

The coast of Sir Bani Yas encircles one of the largest natural islands in the United Arab Emirates, located approximately 170 kilometers southwest of Abu Dhabi. Spanning 87 square kilometers, the island is geologically a salt dome that rose above sea level due to tectonic movements. The island gained international recognition through the initiative of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, who established a wildlife sanctuary here in 1977 to protect endangered Arabian and African species. The coastline is characterized by pristine beaches, extensive mangrove forests, and animated coral reefs, providing critical habitats for marine flora and fauna. Archeologically, Sir Bani Yas is of immense significance; in 1992, the ruins of a 7th-century Nestorian Christian monastery were discovered, offering rare evidence of early religious diversity in the region. Today, the island functions as a premier eco-tourism destination that balances luxury hospitality with rigorous scientific conservation efforts. The surrounding waters are part of a protected marine reserve, serving as a sanctuary for dugongs and various species of sea turtles.
