Al Jahili Fort (United Arab Emirates)

Weather…

Al Jahili Fort, located in the oasis city of Al Ain, is one of the most historically significant defensive structures in the United Arab Emirates. It was constructed in 1891 by order of Sheikh Zayed bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, also known as Zayed the First. The fort was originally built to protect the precious palm groves and water resources of the Al Ain oasis, while also serving as a summer residence for the ruling Al Nahyan family. The architecture is characterized by thick mud-brick walls and distinctive circular towers at its corners. Between 2007 and 2008, the fort underwent extensive restoration and was converted into a cultural center. Today, it houses a permanent exhibition dedicated to the British explorer Sir Wilfred Thesiger, who crossed the Empty Quarter in the 1940s. It stands as a symbol of the military history and traditional building techniques of the Al Ain region.
