Pokrov, known as Ordzhonikidze until 2016, is a city whose identity is deeply rooted in the mining industry. Located in the Dnipropetrovsk Oblast of central Ukraine, it was founded in the late 19th century to house workers for the area's massive manganese ore deposits. Today, the city's economy is dominated by the Pokrov Mining and Processing Plant. While primarily an industrial center, Pokrov holds significant historical importance. Nearby, in 1971, a world-class archaeological treasure was discovered in the Scythian royal burial mound 'Tovsta Mohyla': the famous Golden Pectoral. This exquisite Scythian neckpiece is one of the most precious artifacts in Ukraine's history. Visitors to the region are drawn more for its industrial landscape or archaeological heritage than for traditional tourist amenities. Travel to the city is typically routed through the major nearby city of Dnipro.
