The Trinity Monastery in Mezhyrych, located in the Rivne region near the town of Ostroh, is one of the most important fortified sacred buildings in Ukraine. Founded in the 15th century by the Ostrogski princes, the complex served as both a spiritual center and a powerful defensive facility against attacks. The heart of the complex is the Trinity Church, which features a fascinating blend of Byzantine and Gothic architectural elements. The church is surrounded by massive defensive walls with four round corner towers, equipped with embrasures and battlements for defense. Inside, the monastery houses valuable relics, including the miraculous icon of the Mother of God of Mezhyrych. Despite numerous wars and the political upheavals in the region, most of the historical building fabric has been preserved, making the monastery a unique example of the symbiosis of ecclesiastical art and military architecture. Today, the monastery is an active men's convent of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and attracts pilgrims and architecture enthusiasts from all over the country.
