Dubno Castle (Ukraine)

Weather…

Dubno Castle is one of the oldest and best-preserved fortifications in the Volhynia region, located in the town of Dubno on the banks of the Ikva River. The founding of the stone castle dates back to 1492, when Prince Konstantin Ostrogski replaced an existing wooden fortification. In the 16th and 17th centuries, the site was expanded into a modern bastion fortress, considered one of the most impregnable in Eastern Europe; legends say that in its long history, it was never conquered by storm. The ensemble includes two palace buildings, that of the Ostrogski family and that of the Lubomirski, as well as massive defensive ramparts and deep casemates. Particularly impressive is the 'Maiden's Bastion,' which features a wide view over the marshlands of the Ikva. Today, the castle functions as a state historical and cultural reserve and houses museums with significant collections of weapons, coins, and sacred art. The underground passages, which once served for supplies and storage, are now open to tourists and tell exciting stories from the days of sieges.
