Derzhprom
The Derzhprom building (State Industry Building) in Kharkiv is a monumental landmark of Constructivist architecture, erected between 1925 and 1928. It was the first Soviet skyscraper and, upon completion, stood as the largest single structure in the USSR. The complex consists of several interconnected concrete and glass blocks linked by distinctive skybridges at various elevations. Designed by architects Serafimov, Felger, and Kravets, the building is defined by its functionalist aesthetic and a unique H-shaped layout. The structure was intended to symbolize the industrial progress and modernity of Kharkiv, which served as the capital of Ukraine at the time. Despite facing severe damage during World War II, its robust concrete frame survived. Today, Derzhprom is a candidate for UNESCO World Heritage status and remains one of the world's most significant examples of the Constructivist movement.
