Ovadandepe Gas-to-Liquid Plant (Turkmenistan)

Weather…

The Gas-to-Gasoline (GTG) plant in Ovadandepe is a world-first industrial facility that converts natural gas directly into high-quality synthetic gasoline. Commissioned in June 2019, it is the world's first large-scale plant utilizing the TIGAS technology developed by the Danish company Haldor Topsoe. The project was built for approximately $1.7 billion by a consortium involving Kawasaki Heavy Industries and Rönesans Holding. The facility processes 1.785 billion cubic meters of natural gas annually to produce 600,000 tons of eco-friendly A-92 grade gasoline, which meets Euro-5 emission standards. A key advantage of this synthetic fuel is the near-total absence of sulfur and aromatic hydrocarbons, resulting in much cleaner combustion in vehicle engines. Additionally, the plant produces about 12,000 tons of diesel and 115,000 tons of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) as byproducts each year. This facility is a centerpiece of Turkmenistan's strategy to maximize the value of its vast natural gas reserves through advanced chemical processing. The GTG plant has garnered significant international attention as a pioneer in sustainable fuel production technology.
