Patara
Patara was once the primary naval and commercial port of the Lycian League and is now home to one of the longest sandy beaches in the world. The archaeological site is vast, featuring a restored Roman theater and the world's first parliament building (Bouleuterion). It is also celebrated as the birthplace of Saint Nicholas. The 18-kilometer beach is a protected area due to nesting turtles, meaning there are no buildings on the sand, preserving its wild beauty. Sunsets over the massive sand dunes are a legendary experience for visitors. The nearby village of Gelemiş has cozy guesthouses and traditional Turkish hospitality. Patara is located between Kaş and Fethiye, reachable by car or local bus. The best time to visit is from April to November, as the site and beach are open year-round for history enthusiasts and sun-seekers. It represents an excellent blend of ancient heritage and coastal wilderness.
