Aspendos (Turkey)

Weather…

Aspendos was an ancient city in the Pamphylia region, located about 45 kilometers east of modern Antalya. Established on the Eurymedon River, the city thrived as a wealthy economic center through the trade of salt, oil, and wool. Aspendos achieved global fame for its Roman theater, constructed in the 2nd century AD during the reign of Emperor Marcus Aurelius. It is widely regarded as the best-preserved ancient theater in the world, primarily because its massive stage house (Scaenae Frons) remains standing at its original height. Beyond the theater, the site features the remnants of a colossal aqueduct system, showcasing advanced Roman hydraulic engineering. Aspendos was also celebrated for its horse breeding and was among the first cities in Asia Minor to mint its own silver coinage.
