Kelibia Fort (Tunisia)

Weather…

The Kelibia Fort is an imposing citadel located on the Cap Bon peninsula, perched on a rocky headland 150 meters above the sea. The origins of the site date back to Punic times, but the current structure was largely developed during the Byzantine and later Ottoman rules in the 16th century. It is considered one of the largest and best-preserved fortresses in Tunisia, providing protection against Mediterranean invasions for centuries. Its massive walls enclose various historical layers, including Roman cisterns and medieval prayer rooms. From the ramparts, visitors can enjoy a spectacular view of the harbor of Kelibia and, on clear days, as far as the Italian island of Pantelleria. Today, the fort is a significant monument that highlights the strategic importance of the region throughout ancient and maritime history.
