Lake Manyara (Tanzania)

Weather…

Lake Manyara is a shallow, alkaline lake in the Gregory Rift, at the foot of the impressive western escarpment of the Great Rift Valley. The lake covers about two-thirds of the area of Lake Manyara National Park, though its size fluctuates significantly depending on the season. It is famous for its vast flocks of flamingos, which give the water a pinkish hue when present in high concentrations. The ecosystem around the lake is exceptionally diverse, encompassing dense groundwater forests, open savannas, and marshlands. A unique feature of the park is its tree-climbing lions, which can frequently be observed in the branches of acacia trees. In addition to the lions, the region is known for its large elephant herds and over 400 species of birds. The Maji Moto hot springs at the southern end of the lake testify to the ongoing geological activity of the rift valley.
