Arusha is a major city in northern Tanzania, situated at the base of Mount Meru at an elevation of approximately 1400 meters. It is globally renowned as the gateway to the country's most famous national parks, including the Serengeti and the Ngorongoro Crater. The city holds significant political weight as the headquarters of the East African Community (EAC) and has been the site of major international agreements, such as the 1967 Arusha Declaration. Due to its strategic location and temperate climate, Arusha is a hub for international tourism and hosts numerous diplomatic missions. Historically, the city was established around 1900 as a German military fort and grew into a regional trade center under British rule. Arusha also served as the seat for the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda. Today, its economy relies on tourism and agriculture, specifically the production of coffee, bananas, and flowers for export.
