Lavaux Vineyards (Switzerland)

Weather…

The Lavaux Vineyard Terraces stretch for about 30 kilometers along the northern shores of Lake Geneva, forming the largest contiguous vineyard region in Switzerland. The origins of these terraces date back to the 11th century, when Benedictine and Cistercian monks began cultivating the steep slopes. Due to their exceptional cultural and landscape significance, they were inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2007. The area covers approximately 830 hectares and thrives thanks to the three suns: direct sunlight, light reflected from Lake Geneva, and heat retained by the extensive stone walls. The primary grape variety grown here is Chasselas, which produces white wines with a unique local character. Pretty villages such as Saint-Saphorin and Epesses are deeply rooted in winemaking traditions and attract numerous visitors each year who enjoy hiking through the scenic vineyard paths.
