Rigi (Switzerland)

Weather…

The Rigi, often called the 'Queen of the Mountains,' is a mountain massif in Central Switzerland, set between Lake Lucerne, Lake Zug, and Lake Lauerz. Its highest summit, Rigi Kulm, stands at 1,798 meters above sea level. Geologically, the Rigi is unique as it is almost entirely composed of 'Nagelfluh,' a coarse conglomerate rock formed from Alpine debris millions of years ago. The Rigi played a pioneering role in Swiss tourism; as early as the 18th century, travelers visited the summit specifically to witness its legendary sunrises. In 1871, the Vitznau-Rigi-Bahn was opened as the first cogwheel railway in Europe, followed by the Arth-Rigi-Bahn in 1875. Today, the massif features over 120 kilometers of hiking trails and serves as a major recreation area in both summer and winter. In addition to its panoramic 360-degree views of the Alps and the Swiss plateau, the Rigi is celebrated for its rich biodiversity and traditional alpine farming.
