The Gothenburg Botanical Garden (Göteborgs botaniska trädgård) was inaugurated in 1923 to mark the 300th anniversary of the city and is recognized as one of the largest and most significant botanical gardens in Europe. The entire site spans 175 hectares, with a large portion consisting of an integrated nature reserve and arboretum. The cultivated area showcases about 16,000 plant species from across the globe. A major highlight is the internationally acclaimed rock garden, featuring an artificial waterfall and flora from various alpine regions. The greenhouse complex is another primary attraction, housing Sweden's largest orchid collection and the rare Toromiro tree from Easter Island, which is extinct in the wild. The garden is not only a popular destination for leisure but also a major hub for botanical research and biodiversity conservation. Its themed areas, such as the Japanese glade and the herb garden, offer a memorable variety of botanical displays throughout the seasons.
