Gothenburg City Theatre (Sweden)

Weather…

The Gothenburg City Theatre, situated at the central Götaplatsen square, is one of Sweden's most prestigious drama houses. Opened in September 1934, the building was designed by architect Carl Bergsten and is regarded as an outstanding example of Nordic Classicism and Swedish Art Deco, known as Swedish Grace. The theatre was constructed to replace the older Stora Teatern and is characterized by its innovative stage technology and excellent acoustics. The main stage auditorium seats approximately 600 guests, while smaller stages like 'Studion' are used for more experimental productions. Over the decades, the house has shaped the Swedish theatrical landscape through world premieres and modern stagings of classic plays. Since 1951, the building has housed the country's first permanently installed revolving stage, significantly expanding technical possibilities for directors.
