Galibi Nature Reserve is located at the mouth of the Marowijne River and is one of the world's most important nesting sites for sea turtles. Especially between February and August, visitors can observe the impressive leatherback turtles laying their eggs at night. The reserve features pristine sandy beaches and a unique coastal landscape that is only accessible by water. In addition to the fascinating wildlife, Galibi is home to the indigenous Karib people. The villages of Christiaankondre and Langamankondre allow visitors to experience the traditional lifestyle and crafts of the indigenous inhabitants. The warm hospitality and delicious local cuisine, based primarily on fresh fish and cassava, make the stay an authentic cultural experience. Access is by boat from the border town of Albina and takes about an hour and a half. Since there are no roads, the boat is the only means of transport. The best time to visit is during the turtle season from March to July. Simple guesthouses in the indigenous villages offer accommodation and guided tours to the beaches under strict environmental protection.
