Cola Creek is one of the most beloved recreational destinations for residents of Paramaribo, located very close to the Zanderij International Airport. The name comes from the water's characteristic deep brown color, caused by tannins dissolved from the forest floor, which makes it look remarkably like Coca-Cola. Despite the color, the water is exceptionally clean and refreshingly cool, providing a welcome escape from the tropical heat. The site is well-developed with swimming areas, slides, and picnic huts. Especially on weekends, Cola Creek is bustling and full of life as Surinamese families gather to grill, listen to music, and enjoy nature. In the surrounding forests, visitors can take short walks to discover the unique flora of the savanna belt. Culinary-wise, small kiosks offer classic snacks like fried plantains with peanut sauce (bakabana) or chilled coconut water. Reaching the site is very easy by car via the highway (about a 1-hour drive). The best time to visit is during the dry season, though the area retains its charm even during the rains. Cola Creek gives a well-suited glimpse into local leisure culture and is convenient for a relaxed day in nature.
The most pleasant time to visit is Mar, Sep, Oct.
