Sedeinga (Sudan)

Weather…

Sedeinga is an archaeological site located on the west bank of the Nile in northern Sudan, approximately 100 kilometers south of Wadi Halfa. It is most famous for the Temple of Tiye, the Great Royal Wife of Pharaoh Amenhotep III, which dates back to the 14th century BC. This temple is a rare example of a structure dedicated specifically to a living queen, parallel to the king's temple at Soleb. The site also features a vast necropolis containing over 80 small pyramids, the largest concentration in the Nile Valley. These Meroitic pyramids, dating from the 1st century BC to the 4th century AD, are notable for their unique architectural features and the density of their arrangement. Excavations have revealed important inscriptions in Meroitic script, contributing significantly to our understanding of the Kushite civilization's language and funerary customs. The site serves as a crucial link between the New Kingdom and the later Meroitic periods of Sudanese history, reflecting a rich cultural evolution.
