Sierra de Segura (Spain)

Weather…

The Sierra de Segura is located in northeastern Jaén province and forms part of Spain's largest protected area, the Sierras de Cazorla, Segura y Las Villas Natural Park. Geologically, the range is composed of limestone and dolomite, which erosion has sculpted into spectacular cliffs and karst plateaus. It is the source of the Segura River, for which the range is named, as well as several tributaries of the Guadalquivir. The region is covered by vast pine forests, historically renowned for high-quality timber used in Spanish naval construction. The biodiversity is exceptional, featuring many endemic species such as the Segura rockfoil (Saxifraga). Culturally, the area was defined by its strategic border position between Castile and Granada, evidenced by numerous castles and fortified towns. Today, the Sierra is a hub for sustainable tourism and the production of premium olive oil.
