Roman Bridge of Córdoba (Spain)

Weather…

The Roman Bridge (Puente Romano) of Córdoba is a monumental testament to the city's millennia-old history. Originally built in the early 1st century BC across the Guadalquivir River during the reign of the Roman Emperor Augustus, it was Córdoba's only bridge for nearly 2,000 years and served as a vital part of the Via Augusta trade route. The bridge, which spans from the Mosque-Cathedral (Mezquita) to the Calahorra Tower on the opposite bank, has been destroyed and rebuilt several times throughout its long history, most notably in the 8th century under Moorish rule. Today, the 247-meter-long structure consists of 16 arches, some of which still rest on the original Roman foundations. In the middle of the bridge stands a statue of the Archangel Raphael, the patron saint of Córdoba. Now open exclusively to pedestrians, the bridge has one of the most iconic views of the old city, particularly at sunset.
